Living in a small town can occasionally have its drawbacks for budding entrepreneurs. But if you wait long enough and maintain hope, a beacon of light will emerge. Angel investing is all the rage, and the hit ABC reality show Shark Tank is taking the concept a step further by allowing people to pitch their ideas in exchange for financial backing. Eastern NC residents will now have the chance to compete for a spot on the show by attending an open casting call on July 24th.
The business themed show features a panel of "Sharks" who are looking for the next successful business or product in America. The Sharks consist of successful business owner who listen to a short presentation and pitch from an entrepreneur looking for someone to invest in their business or product. The panel consists of billionaire Mark Cuban, owner and chairman of AXS TV and outspoken owner of the 2011 NBA championship Dallas Mavericks; real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran; "Queen of QVC" Lori Greiner; technology innovator Robert Herjavec; fashion and branding expert Daymond John; and venture capitalist Kevin O'Leary. The strong variety of backgrounds amongst the entrepreneurs ensures that the entrepreneurs all have a fair chance of approaching someone who will look at their business from all angles.
Producers of the show are constantly on the lookout for the next best product or business to receive funding and create great ratings for the show. The products and services range from innovative, wacky,trendy to eco-friendly product solutions that appear to have a great chance at succeeding. The show producers travel all across the country holding open casting calls for entrepreneurs who want their dreams funded. The small Eastern NC City of Greenville NC is lucky enough to be on the list of cities included for casting calls. Interested parties will fill out an application and bring their products and services to the producers as they give their elevator pitch. The Greenville NC casting call will take place on Thursday July 24th at the Martinsborough in downtown Greenville. Wristbands will be distributed at 9am, and interviews will begin at 10am. If selected, entrepreneurs then receive a chance to go before the Sharks to make their pitch and prove why they deserve funding for their idea.
